One thing remains the same
Consider the changes
since Covid-19 entered the world stage.
Will social distancing remain a norm?
How long will we wear masks? Will
the economy recover? How long will it
take to get back to where we were, if ever? Will more people work from
home? Will large cities shrink and rural
areas grow? There are so many
uncertainties and there may be more to
come, It is reassuring to know that some
things remain the same. The bible reminds us that God Himself never changes.
“For
I, the LORD, do not change" (NASB95, Mal 3:6; )
The LORD God is the
same from eternity past to eternity future.
When I begin to feel insecure or afraid I meditate on His timeless
nature. He is sovereign. He is in control. Not one sparrow falls to the ground without
His knowledge. He counts every hair on
our heads. (Matthew 10:29-30) God is
good. All His acts reflect His goodness.
Every good thing given and every
perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom
there is no variation or shifting shadow. (NASB95, Jas 1:17)
Our heavenly Father
He gives us good gifts. These gifts come
from a God who is a constant. He is like
the sun in the sky. There is no inconsistency
or shiftiness with God. He can always be
counted on. We can depend on His
goodness and kindness at all times. He
doesn't change His mind. We can always rely on Him.
“Also the Glory of Israel will not lie or
change His mind; for He is not a man that He should change His mind.”
(NASB95, 1 Sa 15:29)
During times of
change it is natural to reach out to our fellow man. Unfortunately they cannot always be counted
on. Even the best government leaders
make mistakes. How comforting to know we can always trust the promises of
God. If He says it, in His Holy Word, we
can count on it.
“God is not a man,
that He should lie,
Nor a son of man, that He should
repent;
Has He said, and will He not do it?
Or has He spoken, and will He not make
it good? (NASB95, Nu 23:19)
During times of
uncertainty spend extra time reading and meditating on the attributes of
God. Strengthen yourself by remembering
the strength of almighty God. Encourage yourself by considering His goodness
and kindness. You will find new
confidence as you live your life in response to God rather the circumstances
around you.
An old friend would
sometimes ask, "How are you doing?'
When I responded, "Pretty good, under the circumstances." He
would always say, "What are you doing under there?"
